The orange light of the sun crept through the blinds. Today, it seemed earlier than usual. He tried to close his eyes, turn his body, ignore the tap of the day on his shoulder. It wouldn’t quit.

Adam peeled back the blankets that caked his bed and looked at the clock. 6:15 AM. Another day, another dollar. Back to the old grindstone. Early bird gets the worm.

He turned to his nightstand and picked up his laptop. He typed in the password and the computer let him in. He had to make sure not to type too loud. Anna was still snoozing quietly next to him. He opened up the browser. He quickly punched a familiar URL into the browser and logged in by punching in his employee credentials. The ol’ commute.

He couldn’t get anything done in the morning without his coffee. He lazed into the kitchen and threw a pot on. He took a few deep, hot sips and stared out the window. The birds seemed to be the only thing alive. Daylight savings had just made the clocks fall back. It was bright and early. He liked his peaceful mornings.
